Decorating your home in the French country style is such a delightful activity. Once you have chosen your furniture, you can start decorating the rooms with home accents and wall decor. And it takes time to find the perfect items that will create your dreaming French country atmosphere. I guess that like me, when you find the perfect detail, you feel so satisfied!

Wall decor follows the same guidelines as the furniture: timeless items reminding French traditions and history, refinement through well-made details, mix and match of comfort and romanticism. And to create a harmonious interior, remind that your wall decor must follow the color palette you have chosen for your rooms.

Now, the question is: what are the best wall decors for a French country home? There are so many options, so you can create a unique interior. Let’s discover the perfect French wall decor per room:

French Wall Decor for the Living Room

  • A golden mirror is a must-have for both French country home decor and Parisian home decor. Choose one with refined details on the frame, so chic!
  • Vintage style clock: ok we all have the time on our smartphone but let's go back to traditions with a giant clock. A lovely and useful decor!
  • A wall gallery with prints or photos: I recommend having several frames, you can use the same design for all or mix and match, as you prefer! Paris photos, vintage posters, Paris maps, vintage floral canvas… So many visual options, let your creativity and passions guide your selection!
  • Add some shelves with books, souvenirs (from your travels… to France ;) collectibles, antiques, candles, or your favorite small home decor
  • Final touch, moldings are such refined details. Your house probably doesn't have moldings; good news: there are solutions to stick a molding to your wall (and it's not that expensive!).

French Wall Decor for the Kitchen

  • As for the living room, a vintage style clock and prints are perfect wall decor in the kitchen. For the prints, choose designs related to French gastronomy: pastries, wine, bread…
  • You probably know that French use everyday objects as a decor. In the kitchen, this is very common to expose them on the wall: plates, breadboards, baskets, copper pans…
  • For shelves, opt for single open shelves in raw wood or repainted in neutral colors. You will display your cookbooks as well as your lovely pottery (canisters, jugs…).
  • Final touch: add a wood plaque like a store sign in French (Bistrot, Boulangerie...). You will shine explaining to your guests what it means in English ;)

French Wall Decor for the Bedroom

  • The bedroom is the room with the fewer wall decors. It is important to keep a clean decor as the bedroom is for relaxation and rest.
  • Wallpaper is a fantastic idea for the bedroom. It will instantly add a sense of grandeur to your bedroom. Search for a pattern inspired from 17th or 18th century like flowers, foliage, colored stripes, Toile de Jouy… I recommend having wallpaper only on one wall, the one with the bed and to choose one with light colors (do not forget the color palette!).
  • Like in any room, do not hesitate on having a wall gallery with prints, photos, or paintings. My favorite options are a vintage Paris poster or an Impressionist painting (Monet, for example).
  • Opt for wall lights, ideally in wrought-iron or in golden color.
  • Like for the living room, plain yet refined design moldings will add an elegant touch.
